A village of volunteers

Debbie Jones, Volunteer Services Manager, Gilchrist Hospice Care

They say it takes a village to raise a child, we know that is true, and we at Gilchrist Hospice Care believe it takes a village of volunteers to provide comfort and support to our patients we serve.

We know the small and large acts of kindness each volunteer shows makes a difference in the lives of our patients and their caregivers.

Mother Teresa once stated, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”

Too often in our world today the value of kindness is underestimated. The small and large acts that each volunteer so generously gives; a smile, a light touch, a kind word, a listening ear, a compliment, or a silent presence are never forgotten and “are truly endless.”

As a family of hospice volunteers their services enhance the quality of care we provide as an organization and are too immeasurable to count.  It is inspiring to know that a smile, touch, or calming presence becomes a very important part of the Gilchrist village of volunteers that patients never forget.

It is a privilege to work with such dedicated individuals who have made my job as the Volunteer Services Manager a more rewarding and even more enlightening experience.
