On June 15, 2009 our community suffered a huge loss. Paul J. Kelley Jr. died peacefully at Gilchrist Center in Towson, MD. As an active member of the River Hill community Paul coached hockey, announced football games supported charitable foundations volunteered at church and did countless other things for other people. He is sorely missed by all who knew him and in fact over 700 people attended Paul’s funeral. Paul gave generously of his time and resources to help others. To honor him and continue his spirit of service, Paul’s family and friends have established the Paul J. Kelley Jr. Charitable Foundation, Inc. in his honor. The purpose of the foundation is to raise funds for organizations that Paul supported. It is a registered 501 (c)(3) charity.
At the end of Paul’s life he was admitted to the Gilchrist Center in Towson Maryland. Gilchrist Hospice Care says that “They provide end-of-life care by offering the greatest services people and resources and they foster hope healing and respect.” The Kelley family found this to be true at the end of Paul’s life. It was a sad time but a time in which Paul and his family were helped to accept Paul’s last journey and his impending death. Paul’s life ended in peace and with dignity. It is for this reason that the funds raised by the Paul J Kelley Jr. foundation go to Gilchrist Hospice Care to help others have the same end-of-life experience that was so beneficial to Paul and his family.
The foundation raises funds for Gilchrist Center Howard County in Columbia, MD by having an annual St. Paddy’s day bash – on St. Patrick’s Day. The evening is filled with fun food and drink and music and dancing and most importantly lots of laughter in Paul’s honor while raising the much-needed funds. All are invited to attend the event which in 2013 will be held at the Gathering Place in Clarksville MD. Come and have fun while helping raise funds for this wonderful organization that touches almost everyone at some point in their lives.
