According to the National Association of Social Workers, there are over 600,000 professional social workers in the United States. Gilchrist Hospice Care proudly staffs 29 social workers who make a difference in the lives of our patients and families every day.
Often of our support staff says “they’re very passionate about hospice” and “they’ve discovered being a hospice social worker, over other types of social work, is their ‘true calling’”. And Gilchrist is grateful they found us. It takes an especially dedicated and passionate person with great expertise and immense compassion to provide the level of support needed to help patients who are facing a life-limiting illness and, at the same time, to provide support to the patient’s loved ones as they prepare for the end of life together.
Throughout March we will highlight Gilchrist social workers and some of our patients and families to let them share with you, in their own words, how either being a hospice social worker or receiving the support of a hospice social worker makes an impact on their lives.
